2016 Maine Peace Walk: “Stop the War$ on Mother Earth”
The 5th Maine Peace Walk will take place on October 11 – 26. The organizing team is made up of individuals who are dedicated to creating a more peaceful, sustainable and just world. We come together out of our deep concern about the many different wars being waged on Mother Earth, ranging from over-fishing, deforestation, and human-caused extinctions, to climate disruption and endless war.
Close to home we support the Penobscot Nation’s struggle for Justice for the River, opposition to the East/West Corridor, and conversion of war production to alternative energy at Maine shipyards. We know from past experience of walking through rural and urban Maine that many people will be reached with our messages. We hope this spiritual act of walking and sharing conversation and food will help people in our state feel less isolated and despairing about the future.
We welcome everyone to join our walk for an hour, a day, or more and to help in any way they can to contribute. We invite environmental, peace, church, and social justice organizations to sign on as a co-sponsor of the walk. We ask co-sponsors to make a donation of their choosing and to help spread the word about the walk to their members/community. Tax-deductible donations can be made by check to Global Network, designated “For Peace Walk” and sent to:

New Moon in Taurus
The New Moon on Friday, May 6th is in Taurus. It calls us to ground. To sink into the parts of ourselves that we know are steadfast. To become aware of the supporting elements around us that offer continuity when we feel the urge to float away. One of the best ways to do this is to spend significant time in Nature. Significant. Not merely a token “quality time” but quantity. Deep abiding connection to the Earth. This does not happen on our couches or at our desks, no matter the strength of our visualization powers. Do not allow Ego to fool you to thinking otherwise. Nature is calling. Join her in the great outdoors and embrace this New Moon with the assurance that you will discover the best ways to physically orient your spirituality on this plane.
We invite you to explore the various aspects of the New Moon in Taurus, by reading Mystic Mamma!
There will not be a gathering at Twinkle’s Place this month.
There are several sites that offer insight and instruction on how to conduct group and solitary rituals. Here are a few:
And, as always, whether you currently identify as Unitarian Universalist, or you are curious about where we draw our faith from, and why some of us choose to honor the phases of the Moon, here are a few links to explore:

Introducing New Book Group Titles
What Will Hold You?
What can you trust to be there for you when you most need it?
What would hold you like the sea in this poem?
What would you say ” Yes” to without reserve?
That, yes that, is what you are meant to give your attention to.
First Lesson
by Philip Booth
Lie back daughter, let your head
be tipped back in the cup of my hand.
Gently, and I will hold you. Spread
your arms wide, lie out on the stream
and look high at the gulls. A dead-
man’s float is face down. You will dive
and swim soon enough where this tidewater
ebbs to the sea. Daughter, believe
me, when you tire on the long thrash
to your island, lie up, and survive.
As you float now, where I held you
and let go, remember when fear
cramps your heart what I told you:
lie gently and wide to the light-year
stars, lie back, and the sea will hold you.
