ABOUT LIBANA:

In 1979, a group of women sharing a passion for international music, dance, and women’s issues formed the global music ensemble Libana. Inspired by Judy Chicago’s groundbreaking exhibit “The Dinner Party,” Libana took their name from a woman honored by the artist—a 10th century Moorish poet, philosopher, and musician—symbolizing women’s creativity, vision and spirit throughout time.

LIBANA believes deeply in the power of song, the rhythm of the drum, and the spirit of dance to connect people across vast cultural difference. Creating a bridge of the heart, their commitment to the artistic expression of the global community has inspired dynamic cross-cultural understanding, profound healing, and widespread peacebuilding.

Jim Scott “Concert and Conversations” at Twinkle’s Place Sunday, February 12th, 2017

NEWS: Beloved UU Musician Jim Scott is coming to Maine THIS WEEKEND! He is leading church services in Pittsfield in the morning – AND in the afternoon he is hosting a CONCERT at Twinkle’s Place. Please join us if you can!!!

Join us in community with Jim Scott – Composer and Musical Activist.

For more than three decades, Jim Scott has made it his business to create and perform music that celebrates the earth. His songs and poetry have inspired and educated audiences around the world. He has developed presentations for every age group and crafted songs that sensitize his listeners to the beauty of the earth, teaching principles of ecology in memorable verses.

This event at Twinkle’s Place will feature some selections from Jim’s soon to be recorded CD: Heart in Another Land which is an immersion in Latin, Brazilian and Caribbean rhythms with a bit more of a jazz sensibility. This music it is where his heart has been for a long time and the title refers to Jim’s love of these cultures and sounds so suited to his nylon string classical guitar.  There are socially conscious, earth and peace messages, but also, as always, some fun.
