May Thanksgiving be a blessed time, may we remember…

As we enter this time of Thanksgiving, may we remember:

When we live Life as a prayer, our actions uphold and support the belief in, and realization of, the inherent worth and dignity of every person even if, and especially when, every person does not do the same for us.

Let our gatherings with family, and in community, be filled with peace and love and thankfulness for the blessings we have. May we always and all ways be blessings to each other. Amen.

September 12th – October 4th, every year, like clockwork

My mother’s birthday is today,

…would have been today.

October 4th.

She would have been 69.

She died 10 years ago;

her Body releasing its last exhale in the wee hours of September 12th. She was 58.

Her death-day marks the beginning of what is typically a difficult series of weeks for our family; September also holding the anniversaries of my brother’s death, and the would-be birthday of my father who died almost two decades ago now.

Of course, the dark season has grown accustomed to stretching out, often initiating Its appearance before August’s end and extending its visit through, and then past, Samhain.

This year was lighter than many.

Still, their absence is present.

Tammy’s 50th Birthday Celebration!

Saturday, July 21st we gathered together at a friend’s home in Pittsfield to surprise our sweet friend Tammy! She will turn 50 later this year so she was not expecting a birthday party of any kind in July. She was truly surprised! What a delight and a much welcome celebration.  Every day is precious. Every moment counts.

Vacation Time!

For our family, as we still having one school age child, Summertime is an especially special time of the year.  We have more freedom during this season than any other to plan vacations and take spur-of-the-moment adventures and spend time together   as a family, and with friends, mostly unhindered by the demands of other things. We know we are fortunate for this. It is a blessing we are grateful for every day. Our wish is that every family can experience this kind of freedom, and, when they do, to choose to take the time to deepen the bonds of love with those who matter most to them.

May we remember that we belong to each other.

And use our time in ways that show we do.

Amen.

Mother’s Day 2018

Yesterday’s Mother’s Day I was pampered by my loves in the morning. They made me breakfast and served it to me in bed. The entire day was filled with relaxation and fun, in nature, with friends, with my loves, and with new family.  Life on Lancey Street is beautiful. Our gardens are beginning to bloom, our children’s laughter can be heard in the air. Our friendships keep deepening and our circle keeps growing. Last night, after a day of all of us Moms being able to rest and simply enjoy the day, 17 of us gathered to share dinner together. Then at the end of the evening walked across the street to our homes, satisfied and happy. My wish for the world is that everyone is able to experience and live in this kind of beloved community.  My wish is that everyone is able to love and be loved.  And to let go of the tethers to anything that prevents this to come into being. There are reasons for which I will hold the telling of in other postings, but Yesterday’s Mother’s Day was a first. I have been a mother for 26 years. In all that time I have never once really celebrated Mother’s Day. Nor, been truly celebrated on Mother’s Day in such unequivocal ways by those who reside with me. Until yesterday. For this and a thousand more things, I am grateful. I accept this gift of change. I accept this time of loving and being loved.
